The Eve of Departure

The Eve of Departure

It was a stressful and very busy few days prior to leaving the Yukon. Felt like not enough time in the day to do everything needed. There was the interview with the Yukon News, an invite by the high school instructor, Sylvie Hamel, to speak at Ashley’s high school (Vanier) and the Social Justice class, who I told my story of what I was going to do overseas and some of my background in international work. It was nice to have several students asked questions on how they could also do humanitarian work. I also spoke to my office cohorts who were assembled in the Regional Directors office. So many of them were very supportive, offering me cards, cash, little gifts, best wishes to be safe and so many hugs goodbye.

On Thursday, we had a family dinner with Natasha, Ashley, Mim and Mel, with Paula cooking up a delicious feast as usual. Friday was a zoo…trying to get out of the office and take care of everything – as it is, I did not get everything I wanted finished...oh well! After work, out for beers with the work gang for final goodbyes at the Road House, then out with Paula for dinner for a gourmet meal at Giorgio’s.
